چکیده

This paper presents results from the numerical investigation of nonlinear feedback interactions between ULF field-aligned currents (FACs) and ionospheric plasma in global magnetospheric resonator with a non-symmetrical distribution density conjugate hemispheres. The asymmetry is enhanced by introduction valley hemisphere where already lower. main result this study that resonator, mechanism, driven electric field maximum amplitude 50 mV/m, develops nonlinear, intense, small-scale upward characteristic quarter-wavelength structure along ambient magnetic field. frequency these waves two times less than fundamental symmetrical resonator. valleys, which are depletions E F regions, enhance effect, reducing effective conductivity. effect important for interpretation ground, satellite, sounding rocket observations FACs auroral subauroral geospace.

Energetics of the ionospheric feedback interaction

[1] The ionospheric feedback instability has been invoked as a possible mechanism for the formation of narrow auroral arcs. This instability can excite eigenmodes of both field line resonances and the ionospheric Alfvén resonator, producing narrow-scale structures. Although the basic dispersion relation of this instability has been discussed for both of these cases, the energetics of this insta...

HF doppler sounder measurements of the ionospheric signatures of small scale ULF waves

An HF Doppler sounder, DOPE (DOppler Pulsation Experiment) with three azimuthally-separated propagation paths is used to provide the first statistical examination of small scale-sized, high m waves where a direct measurement of the azimuthal wavenumber m, is made in the ionosphere. The study presents 27 events, predominantly in the post-noon sector. The majority of events are Pc4 waves with azi...

Millions of species currently exist on earth, and to secure an understanding of how all this magnificent variety arose is no small task. Biologists have long accepted Darwinian selection as the central explanation of adaptation and evolutionary change; yet, to date, no similar agreement has emerged about evolutionary processes that can create two species out of one. Almost 150 years after Darwi...

When performing data mining, the selection of data mining technique is a critical decision. Often this choice boils down to whether a transparent model is needed or not. Most research indicates that techniques producing transparent models, such as decision trees, often have an inferior accuracy compared to techniques such as neural networks. On the other hand, models created by neural networks ...

Evolution has molded the past and paves the future of biodiversity. As anthropogenic damage to the Earth’s biota spans unprecedented temporal and spatial scales, it has become urgent to tear down the traditional scientific barriers between conservation studies of populations, communities, and ecosystems from an evolutionary perspective. Acknowledgment that ecological and evolutionary processes ...
